A Landmark with a Future

A historic hall. A neglected wing. One ambitious restoration.

Wallsend Hall is a Grade II listed manor house set in the heart of The Green conservation area. Its main entrance, sweeping staircase and grand function rooms have retained their original character — proportions, joinery and detailing that speak to the building's heritage and the future it is being restored toward.

Formerly used as a hospital and standing empty for the past three years, the building has suffered badly from neglect and vandalism. This project aims to bring the entire hall back into use — restoring its rooms to create a future hotel, spa and wedding venue, while an adjoining empty building is demolished and the grounds are re-landscaped to give the hall the setting it deserves. The hall is not currently open or operating.

About the Project
Heritage RoomsDocumented Before Works

The grand rooms that anchor the entire restoration.

The hall's main entrance, sweeping staircase and elegant function rooms have retained their character over the years. These spaces set the tone — and the standard — for the wider restoration now underway across the building, and will be carefully protected as the project progresses.

Heritage wallpaper, tall sash windows over The Green and original parquet flooring make this one of the most characterful spaces in the hall — to be carefully restored as part of the wider project.

The Restoration Journey

A staged programme of repair, conservation and renewal.

Wallsend Hall is currently undergoing a staged programme of restoration and repair. The focus from the outset has been on securing the building, addressing water ingress, preserving significant historic features, and preparing each part of the hall for its next phase of life. This is a long-term project rooted in care, craftsmanship and conservation.

Stage One

Securing the Building

Immediate priorities include roof renovation, temporary sealing of water ingress points, repair and replacement of critical external elements, drainage maintenance, urgent glazing repairs, and the clearance of internal damage caused by damp, pests and decay.

Conservation

Protecting Heritage

The restoration approach is being shaped by the building's listed status and historic significance. Original features such as parquet flooring, sash windows, stonework, and traditional architectural detailing are being assessed and preserved wherever possible.

Future Use

Preparing for the Future

As the building is stabilised and restored, each zone of the hall is being developed with a clear long-term use in mind, from everyday hospitality spaces to elegant event settings, ensuring the hall once again becomes a valuable part of North Tyneside's future.

A Project in Phases

The vision, delivered in carefully planned stages.

The vision for Wallsend Hall is being delivered in carefully planned stages, allowing the building to be restored responsibly while laying the foundation for its long-term future.

Phase 1

Residential and Office

The first stage focuses on the northern section of the hall, where plans include the creation of residential accommodation and office space. This phase includes insulation, rewiring, standalone heating, new kitchens and bathrooms, and full internal renovation to modern standards while maintaining harmony with the character of the hall.

01
Phase 2

Tea Rooms and Eatery

The second stage will bring daily life and energy into Wallsend Hall through licensed tea rooms and an eatery. This space is envisioned as a warm and welcoming destination for locals and visitors, offering refreshments, lunch, afternoon teas and a place to gather within a unique heritage setting.

02
Phase 3

Wedding Venue and Hotel

The final stage is centred around transforming the most characterful parts of the hall into an elegant wedding venue and hotel. Plans include ceremony rooms, function spaces, guest bedrooms and a honeymoon suite, creating a distinctive setting for celebrations and overnight stays.
